Major League Baseball Issues Media Dress Code
Major League Baseball became the first professional league in North America to issue a dress policy to all members of the media on Tuesday. The decision was announced at the baseball winter meetings in Dallas. Media personnel would be dressed in a professional business casual manner in the locker rooms, dugouts, playing field, press box and press lunch room. Starting next season media members will be prohibited from wearing bermuda shorts, flip-flops, tight tee-shirts, short skirts, tank tops, ripped jeans, see-through outfits, sports jerseys and any clothing with a team logo/insignia. One of the reasons for the dress policy was how local television and radio reporters covering the Florida Marlins were dressed during the 2011 season at Sun Life Stadium. In addition nationally, several baseball writers and team broadcasters had been wearing shorts instead of long pants while working games.
