Panthers Shut Out Bruins
In his 600th NHL career appearance, Florida Panthers goalie Jose Theodore made 40 saves en route to a 2-0 shutout over the Stanley Cup champion Boston Bruins at the TD Bankworth Garden on Thursday night. The Panthers jumped the Bruins in the standings and are now tied with the Pittsburgh Penguins for second place in the Eastern Conference with 36 points, one point behind the Philadelphia Flyers. The game was scoreless after two periods and almost had no score after regulation time. It changed with 2:32 left when Tomas Kopecky followed up on a rebound in the crease from a Shawn Matthias shot from the left wing. For Kopecky it was his fourth goal as a Panther. Kris Versteeg capped the victory with an open-net goal, his club-leading 13th goal this season, with 42 seconds remaining. Theodore picked up his second shutout this season and his 32nd in the NHL. Florida continues their three-game trip on the road and take on the Buffalo Sabres Friday night.
