Former professional bowler Don Carter passed away on Thursday in Miami. He was 85. Carter was one of the top bowlers in the 1950's and 1960's when the game appeared on television and was considered the first superstar of bowling. He appeared on numerous national and syndicated broadcasts of the sport. They included ABC's Wide World Of Sports, Jackpot Bowling and Championship Bowling. From the 1970's to the late 2000's, bowling alleys were operated in Tamarac and Sunrise with his name associated with the facilities. They were known as Don Carter Lanes.
