790 The Ticket WAXY-AM dominated their competition in the ratings for the month of May by a wide margin. This has not been seen in Miami/Fort Lauderdale in quite some time. They pulled in a 1.5 which was a major jump from a 1.1 in April. The large increase was due to several factors for the station. The Miami Heat continued through their impressive run through the NBA playoffs. The Miami Marlins pulled off their best regular-season record of any month in franchise history. They created an interim morning show in early May with afternoon sidekick Stugotz Jon Weiner and afternoon producer Marc Hochman as they continued to work two different shifts.
Sports Radio 560 WQAM-AM, which dropped from a 0.8 in April to a 0.7, had half the audience of the top sports talk station 790 The Ticket. It was a surprise considering that both stations were tied with a 1.0 just two months ago. It seemed that local listeners did not take to new afternoon host Dan Sileo, who worked his first full month at that station, so well. In addition, the Florida Panthers ended their second most successful season in team history back in April.
940 WINZ-AM The Sports Animal bounced back from a 0.3 to a 0.5 in the month of May. The increase amount of daytime hours of its signal had more of the region listening to the evening show with Jeff DeForrest.
