The Florida Panthers preseason games up until September 30 have been cancelled due to the NHL lockout that began on Sunday. The Cats were to play the Nashville Predators in a home doubleheader on September 24 for the second consecutive year. In addition, two road games in Texas against the Dallas Stars were also eliminated. The Cats have three preseason games against the cross-state rival Tampa Bay Lightning still scheduled in early October.
There has been news from the Panthers organization recently. The name of the arena in Sunrise was changed from the Bank Atlantic Center to the BB&T Center thanks to a ten-year agreement. Financial problems were taken under consideration by team management as payroll was cut in the Panthers organization and a portion of personnel were let go due to the NHL lockout. Look for these unemployed staffers to rejoin the organization when the league owners and players agree to a new collective bargaining agreement.
