For the first time since last December, Sports Radio 560 WQAM-AM is the highest rated sports station in the Miami/Fort Lauderdale region. 790 The Ticket WAXY-AM had lead or was tied for the top spot throughout this calendar year.
WQAM went up slightly from a 0.8 to a 0.9 in September due to recent changes made by management. Incoming program director Jorge Sedano fared well as the new afternoon host at the station against the Dan LeBatard Show. Dan Sileo was moved from the afternoon shift to the midday shift and replaced Curtis Stevenson, who was demoted again back to weekends. Sileo took over the afternoon show in April from Sid Rosenberg. In addition, play-by-play broadcasts returned to Sports Radio 560 for the first time since May with University of Miami Hurricanes football.
790 The Ticket fell to second place in the region for the first time since December 2011 as they went from a 0.8 to a 0.6 during September. WAXY had a 1.6 rating back in June and has lost more than half their audience since then. Lincoln Financial Media bought WMSF-FM in Palm Beach County in the end of August and decided to flip the format to an FM simulcast of the station as 104.3 The Ticket. The new morning show with Marc Hochman and Jonathan Zaslow has lost traction since it began in early August. As the flagship station of the Miami Marlins, the team had long been out of contention for a playoff spot.
940 The Sports Animal WINZ-AM showed improvement going from a 0.3 to a 0.4 in September. The bump in the ratings is due to the beginning of the regular season for the Miami Dolphins. They are the flagship station for that team.
I like Zas and Marc, but the show is horrible. Zas is good on his own, and Marc is a good wing-man but not a good lead. For starters, the show does very little sports...it's all silly pop-culture stuff that Hoc finds amuzing, but only Hoc finds amuzing. The best morning show they can have, now that Sedano is gone, is Hoc and StuGotts. That was a great combination when they tried it for a little while - but that will kill the Lebartard show. They should've never let Sedano go. Sedano and Lebartard where the only real talents on that station, and now they're left with only one. I actually now listen to Joe Rose in the morning, and I can't stand Joe Rose. That's how bad the morning show on 790 is.
ReplyDeleteAgreed... Hoc and Zas have their moments, but is usually this awkwardly executed humor schtick that involves being bald or weirdly hitting on Jason Taylor's sister (who also has no business being there other than the fact she is, Jason Taylor's sister). Doesn't surprise me one bit that they are losing traction, plus they look awful compared to the afternoon drive, LeBatard Show, which is arguably one of the best Sports Talk shows in the country.
