WQAM Cans Steve Goldstein

    Sports Radio 560 WQAM-AM has let go Steve Goldstein, a.k.a. Goldie, after a three year tenure. He co-hosted the early afternoon shift with WTVJ-TV Channel 6 news anchor Adam Kuperstein since the first week of the year in January. He will co-host a Saturday sports show with 790 The Ticket WAXY-AM afternoon co-host Jon Weiner, a.k.a Stugotz, on WFOR-TV Channel 4 called Sports Bang as of this weekend.
    Goldstein, a Syracuse University grad, finished a second run at WQAM. He came back to the station as a temporary midday host when broadcasting legend Neil Rogers retired in June 2009. When Sid Rosenberg was named the new midday host in September 2009. Goldstein moved into a weekend host and fill-in host role.
    His first stint at WQAM was where he was first noticed by local listeners. He came in as the morning sports anchor when Bob Wischusen was promoted to morning co-host with Joe Rose on The First Team in late 1994. After Wischusen was demoted to afternoon sports anchor in 1995, Goldstein added morning sidekick to his resume with Rose and Andrew Ashwood. He would have the same duties when Jeff DeForest took over for Ashwood on the show later that year.
   Goldstein replaced Jon "Boog" Sciambi as the radio studio host for Florida Panthers game broadcasts in October 1996. He would hold that position for eight seasons through 2004. He was elevated to the radio play-by-play announcer post and took over for Foster Hewitt Memorial Award winner Jiggs McDonald.
    When The First Team broke up to give Jeff DeForest his ill-fated show that lasted only two weeks in January 2002, Goldstein remained as one of several morning sidekicks. He would eventually become the morning co-host on the Howard David Show from March 2002 to early August 2004. Goldstein jumped across the street for a weekend host spot when 790 The Ticket launched in late August 2004 and lasted one year there. At that time, he was the radio voice of the Florida Panthers during the NHL lockout in 2004 and 2005.
    He has done a stretch of television work in Miami as the play-by-play announcer for the Florida Panthers on Fox Sports Florida since October 2007. In addition, he was a studio co-host on Miccosukee Sports Rap at Fox Sports Net Florida.
    He began his professional career as an intern at Sports Radio 66 WFAN in New York City. He then went across town and joined Westwood One as a producer. He would later be promoted to an on-air role as sports anchor, sports reporter and studio host.
