In his third year on the top circuit of auto racing, Brad Keselowski captured the NASCAR Sprint Cup Championship at Homestead-Miami Speedway on Sunday. He finished 15th in the race, the spot he needed to at least end up to clinch the title. Keselowski won the second-tier Nationwide Series in 2010.
Jeff Gordon won the final race of the NASCAR season at Homestead. It was his first career win at that specific track. Five-time NASCAR champion Jimmie Johnson entered the race in second place overall in the chase for the Sprint Cup. His vehicle did not have a good showing and he finished the season in third place one point behind Clint Bowyer.
Penske Racing, headed by longtime auto racing owner Roger Penske, won its first crown at the highest level of NASCAR. They won the lower Nationwide Series with Keselowski as a driver back in 2010. The organization previously won numerous titles on the Indy Car open-wheel league which included 15 Indianapolis 500 victories.
