The most famous rivalry in Palm Beach County will be played on Friday night as the Glades Central Raiders take on the Pahokee Blue Devils in the Muck Bowl at Anquan Boldin Stadium in Pahokee. The Blue Devils have not won the Muck Bowl since 2007 as the Raiders swept the last four matchups. Several players will end up playing Division 1 college football soon and it is possible that someone on that field may one day play in the NFL.
Glades Central(5-4, 4-0) had their worst start in school history as they lost their first four games to eventual playoff teams that included Dwyer, Plantation, Park Vista and American Heritage. Since then the Raiders have won five straight games which included four district opponents.
They clinched the District 14-5A title last week with a dominant 40-6 road win over Boynton Beach. Giovanni Lugo filled in the first half as quarterback because T.J. Abrams was serving a one-half suspension by the coaching staff. Lugo led them to a 27-6 halftime lead. Will Likely scored three touchdown which included a 64-yard interception return. David Bailey also caught three touchdown passes in the game.
Abrams will throw passes downfield to Bailey, Raqoun Carver and Jonathan Istache. The Raiders have a powerful backfield with Likely and Aaren Baker to gain yardage.
Pahokee(4-4, 2-2) will again not make the FHSAA playoffs as they finished in third place in District 7-3A behind American Heritage and Cardinal Newman. Jay Hopson will replace an injured James Johnson at quarterback and will lead the Blue Devils offense with MacArthur Burnett running the ball from the backfield. Kevine Miller and Gary Brown will attempt to get open for receptions.
