The Dillard Panthers and the Blanche Ely Tigers will meet in the annual Soul Bowl at Lockhart Stadium in Fort Laudredale on Saturday night. The Panthers, currently on a three-game losing streak, got the District 15-5A runner-up spot on Monday after 6-0 wins over the Hallandale Chargers and Cardinal Gibbons Chiefs in a three-way tiebreaker.
Dillard(4-5, 2-2), who will make their first FHSAA playoff appearance since 2008 next week at defending Class 5A state champion Norland, will be led by running back Dre'sean Nelson who can gain yardage on any run or pass. Eddie Roberts IV will have added impact in the backfield with him. Dennis Turner and LaDarion McBride will look for sharp passes from quarterback Lee Martin.
For the first time since 2008, Blanche Ely(5-4, 3-2) will not be a participant in the postseason as they finished third in District 14-7A behind Northeast and Boyd Anderson. They come off a 54-6 victory over Coral Glades last week. Nelson Ervin will dictate things for the Tigers offensive attack as quarterback. He will have numerous options to throw the ball downfield against the Dillard defense.
