It was a rare situation where both teams were held scoreless in regulation as the Montreal Canadiens edged the Florida Panthers 1-0 in overtime at BB&T Center on Thursday night. It was the second time in three games where Florida(4-5-3) were shut out and the third time this season that they were blanked.
The only goal of the game was at 2:10 of overtime as left wing Rene Bourque scored his fourth goal this season on an assist by center Alex Galchenyuk for the Montreal(8-4-1) victory. The Panthers will host the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday night.
Former Canadiens and current Panthers goalie Jose Theodore made 31 saves in the loss as his record lowered to 4-6-1 this season. Montreal goalie Carey Price picked up the shutout as he stopped all 26 Cats shots and improved to 8-3-0. Florida went 0-for-2 while Montreal went 0for-3 on the power play. The Panthers were outshot 32-26 in the game although they had a 13-9 shot advantage in the third period.
