Dwyane Wade dropped down 22 points with eight assists in 36 minutes as the Miami Heat slipped by the Memphis Grizzlies 98-91 on Friday night at American Airlines Arena. LeBron James, who had just four points at halftime, ended with a double-double of 18 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds in 42 minutes. The Heat improved to 26-3 at home.
With the exception of thirty seconds, Memphis(38-19) had the lead throughout the first quarter and were up 20-16 at the end of the period. Miami(42-14) went on a 15-5 spurt in the first six minutes of the second quarter and were barely ahead 42-41 at halftime.
The Heat scored the first five points of the second half and still led 67-66 after three quarters. The Grizzlies were in striking distance throughout the fourth quarter and they were within six points the entire time. Memphis was down 90-89 with 42 seconds remaining. James hit a three-point shot from the top of the arc with 24 seconds left that began a closing 8-2 rally by the Heat.
Chris Bosh added 13 points and six rebounds in 33 minutes while Shane Battier had 14 points in 26 minutes for the Heat. Ray Allen got 10 points in 29 minutes as he came off the bench.
Marc Gasol led the Grizzlies with a team-high 24 points and nine rebounds in 36 minutes. Zach Randolph also fell short of a double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds in 37 minutes. Mike Conley contributed 14 points and eight assists in 34 minutes while reserve Quincy Pondexter had 10 points in 21 minutes.
