The Miami Marlins fell behind early and were unable to respond as they lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers 7-1 at Dodger Stadium on Saturday night. The Fish have dropped four of their last five games.
Kevin Slowey gave up the first run of the game to Los Angeles(14-21) in the second inning. Andre Ethier led off with a double to center field and advanced to third on an A.J. Ellis sacrifice bunt. Skip Schumaker singled to right field for Ethier to score.
Dee Gordon smacked a lead-off home run in the third inning to right field on a 2-0 pitch for his first homer of the season. The Dodgers got three consecutive base hits to right field by Adrian Gonzalez, Matt Kemp and Ethier. Two batters later, Gonzalez scored on a fielder's choice by Schumaker to make it 3-0.
Miami(11-26) surrendered two more runs in the fifth inning. Ethier singled to right-center field with one out then Ellis singled to right as Ethier moved to third. Ethier came in on a base hit by Schumaker to right. Ellis crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly by Uribe to left field.
The Marlins broke the shutout in the seventh inning against Hyun Jin-Ryu as Miguel Olivo blasted a lead-off solo homer to left field on a 2-1 pitch. It was his third home run of the season.
Los Angeles extended their lead in the bottom of the frame with two more runs. Ethier picked up his fourth hit of the game with a lead-off double to deep right off A.J Ramos. Ellis struck out then Schumaker walked. Uribe singled to center field as Ethier scored and Schumaker advanced to third. Schumaker scored on a passed ball while Nick Punto was at-bat.
Slowey dropped to 1-3 this season as he gave up five runs on 11 hits in 4 2/3 innings. Jin-Ryu improved to 4-2 as he compiled 6 2/3 innings and allowed one run on five hits.
