The National Football League announced Tuesday where would be the site for Super Bowl 50 and Super Bowl 51 as Miami finished in second place for consideration. The San Francisco 49ers new stadium in Santa Clara was selected for Super Bowl 50 while Reliant Stadium in Houston was picked for Super Bowl 51.
The San Francisco area held one previous title game with Super Bowl 19 played at Stanford Stadium in Palo Alto. It was the last time the Miami Dolphins appeared in a Super Bowl as they lost to the San Francisco 49ers. Houston recently hosted Super Bowl 38 between the New England Patriots and Carolina Panthers and held Super Bowl 8 at Rice Stadium as the Dolphins won their last championship against the Minnesota Vikings.
Miami is tied with New Orleans with hosting nine Super Bowls. The Orange Bowl hosted five of the first 13 Super Bowls as they included Super Bowl 2, 3, 5, 10 and 13. The Dolphins current home in Miami Gardens was host of Super Bowl 29, 33, 41 and 44.
