The Florida Panthers have bought out the final year of defenseman Filip Kuba's two-year contract. Kuba becomes an unrestricted free agent and will not need to clear waivers due to a non-movement clause in his contract. The Cats are on the hook for four million dollars toward their salary cap next season because this was not a compliance buyout.
Kuba joined Florida from the Ottawa Senators as free agent in July 2012. He did have a previous stint with the Panthers earlier in his career from 1998-99 until 1999-2000. Kuba played 44 games for the Cats this past season and had one goal, nine assists and held a minus-18.
