The Miami Marlins ended a franchise record 37-inning scoreless streak as they edged the Colorado Rockies 3-1 on Monday night at Coors Field. The Fish snapped a four-game losing streak and raised their record to 15-34 on the road.
Miami(36-61) powered out with two runs during the first inning against Drew Pomeranz. Ed Lucas got a one-out base hit to right and he scored on a double by Giancarlo Stanton into deep right field. Stanton advanced to third on an infield single by Marcell Ozuna. Placido Polanco followed with a sacrifice fly to center field to score Stanton.
In the third inning, the Marlins extended their lead to 3-0 on a Lucas lead-off home run to left field on a 2-0 count. It was his second homer of the season.
Colorado(48-52) managed to get a run in the bottom of the fourth against Tom Koehler. Troy Tulowitzki smacked a lead-off homer to center field on a 3-0 pitch to make it 3-1.
Koehler improved to 2-5 as he allowed one run on eight hits and struck out seven in seven innings. Steve Cishek pitched a perfect ninth inning to get his 18th save. Pomeranz fell to 0-4 as he went 4 1/3 innings and surrendered three runs on five hits. The Marlins optioned Ozuna and Derek Dietrich to Double-A Jacksonville after the game and called up Christian Yelich and Jake Marisnick.
