The Florida Panthers have resigned center Shawn Matthias to a new two-year $3.5 million contract. It will count for $1.75 million toward the Cats salary cap in 2013-14 and 2014-15. He played all 48 games for the Panthers in the lockout-shortened NHL season in 2012-13 and had a career-high 14 goals with seven assists. Matthias was acquired by the Panthers along with a 2007 second-round pick from the Detroit Red Wings for Todd Bertuzzi in February 2007.
