Clayton Kershaw did it all on the mound and at the plate as the Los Angeles Dodgers got a 6-0 shutout victory over the Miami Marlins on Thursday at Marlins Park. The Fish, who dropped three of four games in the series with Dodgers, will take on the Colorado Rockies at home this weekend. The Dodgers return to the west coast and face the Boston Red Sox.
Kershaw raised his record to 13-7 as he surrendered no runs on five hits in eight innings pitched for the Dodger Blue. Marlins starting pitcher Henderson Alvarez went five innings and allowed five runs on seven hits as he moved down to 2-3. Brian Wilson made his first appearance with the Dodgers as he pitched in the ninth inning. He played for the arch-rival San Francisco Giants for seven seasons and won two World Series titles in 2010 and 2012.
In the fourth inning, Los Angeles(75-52) picked up three runs off Alvarez. Yasiel Puig led off with a double into deep center field, Andre Either stuck out and A.J. Ellis grounded out to send Puig to third. Skip Schumaker was hit by a pitch and Juan Uribe walked to load the bases. Kershaw drove in Puig as he slashed a base hit to left field. Carl Crawford followed with a two-run double to right field to score Either and Schumaker.
The Dodgers put together a two-out rally during the fifth inning with two more runs. After Adrian Gonzalez struck out and Puig popped out, Either doubled to the right-center field wall. He scored on a double by Ellis to deep center field to make it 4-0. Ellis got to third on a wild pitch then crossed the plate on a single into center field by Schumaker.
Miami(48-78) gave up one more run in the top of the seventh inning. Gonzalez ripped a double to center field off Dan Jennings before he was relieved by A.J. Ramos. After Gonzalez advanced to third on a passed ball, he would score on a sacrifice fly by Puig into center.
