The San Francisco Giants jumped out to a four-run lead for the second straight game as they defeated the Miami Marlins 6-4 on Saturday night at Marlins Park. The Fish have lost 10 of their last 13 games.
In the fourth inning, San Francisco(55-67) placed a four-spot against Henderson Alvarez. Brandon Belt was on third and Buster Posey was on second with two outs when Pablo Sandoval drove in Belt on an infield single. Posey would score on a balk by Alvarez and Sandoval took second on the play. After Roger Kieschnick walked, Gregor Blanco knocked in Sandoval and Kieschnick with a two-run triple into center field for a 4-0 lead.
Miami(46-75) crawled back into the game with two runs in the sixth inning off Matt Cain. Donovan Solano led off with a base hit to center to begin the frame. Giancarlo Stanton came up and blasted a tape-measure home run that went 454 feet to center field on a 3-2 pitch. It was his 14th homer this season and his eighth in his career against San Francisco.
The Giants would extend their lead in the top of the eighth as A.J. Ramos allowed three consecutive walks to Brandon Crawford, Belt and Posey with one out. Mike Dunn relieved Ramos with the bases loaded and surrendered a run as Sandoval walked for Crawford to score. Andres Torres pinched-hit for Kieschnick and got an infield hit as Belt crossed the plate.
The Marlins added a couple of runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. They had Christian Yelich on second and Solano on first with one out. Logan Morrison smacked a two-run double to left-center field and brought in both of them to make it 6-4.
Alvarez dropped to 2-2 as he allowed four runs on four hits in seven innings while Cain improved to 8-8 as he pitched seven innings and gave up two runs on four hits for the victory. Sergio Romo captured his 30th save of the season for the Giants.
