The Miami Marlins fell short as they lost to the Colorado Rockies 3-2 at Marlins Park on Friday night. The Fish have lost four of their last five games at home.
In the fifth inning, Miami(48-79) got their initial run on lead-off solo home run to left-center field by Ed Lucas on the first pitch off Jhoulys Chacin. It was the third homer this season for him.
Colorado(60-70) quickly responded and tied the game in the top of the sixth against Tom Koehler. D.J. LeMahieu began with a triple into deep center and Troy Tulowitzki walked. Michale Cuddyer grounded out into a fielder's choice for LeMathieu to score.
The Fish retook the lead 2-1 in the seventh inning. Jake Marisnick struck a one-out triple to deep right field. After Jeff Mathis walked, pinch-hitter Greg Dobbs drove in Marisnick with a sacrifice fly to right field.
The Rockies came back with two runs crossed the plate against Chad Qualls during the eighth inning. LeMahieu lined out to first and Tulowitzki followed with a double to the deep center field. Cuddyer knocked in Tulowitzki on a base hit to right field and advanced to second on the relay throw. Two batters later, he scored the game-winning run on a double to center by Ryan Wheeler.
Koehler allowed one run on six hits in seven innings while Chacin earned the victory for Colorado as he pitched seven innings, gave up two runs on four hits and upped his record to 12-7. Qualls fell to 4-2 as he surrendered two runs on three runs in one inning.
