The Miami Marlins continued their winning ways at home on a Henderson Alvarez eight-hit complete game shutout as they beat the Tampa Bay Rays 1-0 at Marlins Park on Tuesday night. The Marlins now hold a 22-11 record at home this season and head across the state to complete the four-game series between both teams. Tampa Bay(23-36) lost their eighth consecutive game.
Alvarez struck out five and raised his record to 3-3. Chris Archer surrendered one run on five hits in seven innings, struck out eight for the Rays and dropped to 3-3.
There was no scoring until the fifth inning by Miami(30-28). Garrett Jones led off with a single to right field and advanced to second two batters later when Adeiny Hechavarria got a base hit to right. After Jeff Mathis struck out to make it two out, Alvarez singled to center field and loaded the bases. Christian Yelich followed with a walk and Jones scored to give the Marlins a 1-0 lead.
