The Glades Central Raiders will host the defending hree-time FHSAA Class 4A state champions the Booker T. Washington Tornadoes at Effie C. Grear Field on Friday night in a regional final. The Raiders fell to the Tornadoes in the previous two years in the FHSAA playoffs.
Glades Central have won their last seven games following two straight weeks of road losses in Delray Beach to American Heritage and Atlantic. They finished the regular season with a Muck Bowl victory over Pahokee for the eighth consecutive year and defeated Gulliver Prep in a regional semifinal last week.
Quarterback James Blackmon will manage the offense and throw the football to all spots on the field. Running back Ja'kevious Vickers is expected to get the abundance of carries for the team. Blackmon looks to connect with wide receivers Devonte Burden, Quantino Allen and Rodney Porter for receptions.
Booker T. Washington attempts to capture their fourth consecutive state title and they have to do it the hard way. They finished as a district champion with just a .500 record in the regular season and did stop University School last week in a regional semifinal.
The Tornadoes come out with a spread offense led by quarterback Daniel Richardson. Running back Craig Nelson will get most of the rushes from the backfield. Wide receivers Raymond Flanders, Tyquan Thornton, Gustavious Dames and Darrius Scott are who Richardson looks for to make catches.
