The American Heritage Stallions will attempt to make the Class 3A championship game for the second consecutive year as they host the Clearwater Central Catholic Marauders in a state semifinal on Friday night at The Corral in Delray Beach. Both schools have been state finalists in the last two seasons for this classification.
American Heritage was the district runner-up and had to go the hard way to reach this point with two playoff victories on the road. They got revenge from a regular season loss and topped their district champion the Oxbridge Academy Thunderwolves last week 16-11 in a regional final.
The Stallions look to control the ball with their running attack on offense. Running back Devin Singletary will get the bulk of the carries from the backfield while Dwyer transfer Cornelius Smith along with D.J. Davis and Alec Sinkfield can get some rushing attempts. Quarterback Cameron Smith can throw an occasional pass to wide receivers Keenan Duggan, Matt Pica and Micah Leon.
Clearwater Central Catholic enters the contest undefeated following home playoff wins over Holy Trinity in the regional semifinal and John Carroll in the regional final. They played in the state championship game against Trinity Christian two years ago and lost.
