The Florida Panthers ended a three-game west coast road trip with a 4-l loss to the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday at Staples Center. The Panthers were winless on the road swing and have not won a game in their last five.
Florida was able to get their only lead of the contest with less than one minute left in the first period. Jonathan Huberdeau beat Jake Muzzin to the puck at the top of the Panthers zone and sent a breakout pass to center ice. Nick Bjugstad skated into the Kings zone, went to the top right circle and snapped a shot by Jonathan Quick for his fifth goal of the season and made it l-O.
The second period belonged to Los Angeles and they rallied with three goals in a four-minute time span. Jeff Carter got his seventh goal this year as his one-time slapshot from the left circle beat Roberto Luongo following a pass from the high slot by Tyler Toffoli.
The Kings added a power-play goal as they cycled the puck around the Panthers zone. A Toffoli pass from the right circle went to Muzzin on top and relayed it to Drew Doughty in the top left circle for a one-timer and his first tally this season. LA made it a two-goal gap when Dustin Brown carried the puck through the slot area, pushed it ahead to Anze Kopitar and he scored from the top of the crease.
In the third period, Milan Lucic picked up his third goal with his new club midway through the frame. Carter stopped the puck at the right-wing boards, quickly moved it to the Lucic in the slot and he redirected it into the Panthers cage.
