The Florida Panthers finished a six-game homestand with a 3-2 victory over the Arizona Coyotes on Thursday night at BB&T Center. The Panthers completed the home stretch with a 3-2-1 record. They begin a five-game road trip on Saturday in Columbus and end it in Arizona.
In the first period, longtime Arizona(27-28-6) captain Shane Doan gave his club a 1-0 lead at 7:02 on his 23rd goal of the campaign. He got the puck at the right point, skated forward and slipped a slapshot between the pads of Roberto Luongo.
Florida(35-18-7) tied the game at 12:04 as Vincent Trocheck connected for his 18th goal of the season. He had the puck on the right wing and sent a cross-ice pass to Brian Campbell on the left point. He returned it back to Trocheck in the high slot and then he snapped a high shot past Louis Domingue. Campbell compiled his 400th career assist on that play.
The Panthers took their first lead of the contest on the power play at 10:18 of the second period. Dmitry Kulikov passed the puck from the top of the zone to Nick Bjugstad in the left circle for a one-time slapshot. Aleksander Barkov pounced on the rebound and scored from the top of the crease.
The Cats extended their margin to 3-1 at the four-minute mark of the third. Jaromir Jagr carried the puck around the Arizona cage and centered it. Barkov, who missed the last six games, followed with a wrist shot in the low slot for his 18th goal.
The Coyotes cut the gap to one goal with 5:53 remaining in the final period on the power play. Oliver Ekman-Larsson blasted a slap shot from far range for his 18th tally of the season.
