The Miami Heat were stopped by the Charlotte Hornets 90-88 on Wednesday night at American Airlines Arena in Game 5. Miami trail the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals three games to two and can be eliminated from the NBA Playoffs on Friday in Charlotte.
The Hornets were down 14-5 at the start of the game then scored 14 unanswered points to go up 20-14 with 4:20 left and led 28-25 after one quarter. Charlotte grew their margin to double digits midway through the second quarter 40-28 on a 15-3 spurt and stayed ahead 49-47 at halftime.
The Heat outscored Charlotte 24-16 in the third and were up 71-65 after three quarters. The Hornets cut at the deficit during the fourth quarter as they outscored Miami 25-17 in the final frame.
Charlotte regained the lead 90-87 with 25 seconds left when Courtney Lee made a three-point shot.
