The Miami Marlins barely got past the Washington Nationals 3-2 on Saturday night at Marlins Park. Marlins starting pitcher Jose Fernandez improved his career record against the Nats to 6-0 while Nationals starting pitcher Joe Ross lost for the second time in six days to the Fish.
After Washington(26-17) got up 1-0 early in the contest, Miami(22-20) tied it in the bottom of the fifth. Ichiro Suzuki advanced to third when a pick-off throw by Ross went into right field. He would eventually score as Martin Prado slapped a base hit through the right side of the infield.
The Marlins took the lead 3-1 during the sixth inning. With a runner on third base, Justin Boar smashed a two-run homer off the façade of the upper deck in right field. It was his eighth home run of the season for the slugger.
