Brandon Crawford compiled seven base hits in a game as the San Francisco Giants got by the Miami Marlins 8-7 in 14 innings at Marlins Park on Monday night. Crawford tied a National League record for most hits in a game and had eight at-bats. The last player to have seven base hits in a contest was Rennie Stennett of the Pittsburgh Pirates when he went 7-for-7 against the Chicago Cubs on September 16, 1975.
San Francisco(64-48) broke the tie during the top of the 14th as Dustin McGowan was pitching his third inning for Miami(59-53). After Angel Pagan grounded into a double play, Brandon Belt and Buster Posey walked. Andrew Cashner, who has been a starting pitcher since late 2013, was then brought in by the Marlins in a rare relief appearance. Crawford connected for his seventh hit of the game with a single in shallow center field and Belt scored on the play.
Crawford's compilation of at-bats went like this. He had an infield single in the second, double to right in the fourth, struck out in the fifth, single to right in the seventh, single to right in the eighth, single to right-center field in the 11th, triple to right in the 13th and a base hit into center field in the 14th inning.
