Florida International University recently named Josh Appel as their new radio football play-by-play announcer. He will be joined in the broadcast booth by former St. Thomas Aquinas and FIU quarterback Wes Carroll. The games will be aired on 790 The Ticket WAXY-AM this season beginning on September 1.
Appel becomes the fifth person to hold the position as their radio voice. Previous announcers who held that spot included Phil Schoen, Jeremy Marks-Peltz, Tony Calatayud and Mike Levine.
It is a return for Appel to his South Florida roots. He was a Cypress Bay high school grad and interned with the Dan Le Batard Show on The Ticket. He recently was the University of South Florida play-by-play announcer and sports director for the campus radio station.
