Miami Marlins radio voice Dave Van Horne now shares the mantle as of Monday for the longest continuous active English-language Major League Baseball play-by-play announcer with Kansas City Royals voice Denny Matthews. They both got the honor after Vin Scully announced his final game of a 67-year career on Sunday as the voice of the Los Angeles Dodgers franchise in Los Angeles. Scully started with the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1950 where he joined Red Barber in the broadcast booth.
Van Horne has been the lead English-language radio play-by-play announcer of the Marlins since the 2001 season. He did work over 140 games on Miami Marlins Radio Network this season with the club. He was the voice of the Montreal Expos from their inception in 1969 until 2000. Van Horne received the Ford C. Frick Award from the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2011.
