The Florida Panthers played the final game of a five-game homestand as they lost to the Montreal Canadiens 3-2 in overtime at BB&T Center on Thursday night. The Cats went 1-1-3 during their stay in Sunrise against five different Atlantic Division opponents. The Panthers will play their only road game during a nine-game stretch in Dallas on Saturday.
Florida(15-14-8) got on the scoreboard with 6:02 left in the first period. Jussi Jokinen came out with the puck from a scrum on the end wall. He passed from the right corner to the top right circle where Jason Demers blasted a slapshot by Al Montoya for a Panthers 1-0 lead.
The Habs(22-9-5) tied the contest on their second power play of the second period at 5:45. Alexander Radulov had the puck on the right-wing wall and fed Max Pacioretty. He sent a wrist shot from the edge of the right circle past James Reimer for his 16th goal of the season.
The Panthers regained the lead at 9:03 on their first power play of the game. Keith Yandle passed from the top of the zone to Vincent Trocheck above the left circle. He nailed in a slapshot for his 10th goal of the year.
Montreal(21-9-5) waited until 2:37 remaining in the third period to tie the game. Zach Gallagher received a cross-ice pass in the slot area from Phillip Danault and snapped a shot into the Panthers cage.
It would take a short amount of time for the Canadiens to get the victory in the extra session. Pacioretty send a lead pass in the neutral zone to Danault at the Panthers blue line. He skated in through the slot and put in a wrist shot 39 seconds into overtime.
