The Florida Panthers returned back to Sunrise on Thursday night following a four-game road trip and stopped the Tampa Bay Lightning 2-1 in overtime at BB&T Center. The Panthers started a four-game homestand which is stretched out over a two-week period.
Florida(21-19-10) was able to pick up a shorthanded goal during the first power play for the Lightning at 9:55 of the first period. Keith Yandle entered the Bolts zone and passed to the right side. Vincent Trocheck then sent a cross-ice pass to Jussi Jokinen in the low left circle and put in a wrist shot past Andrei Vasilevskiy.
Tampa Bay(22-22-6) completed the same man-advantage situation with a power-play tally at the 11:33 mark. Alex Killorn had the puck near the side of the Panthers net and passed it out to Jonathan Drouin in the left circle. He connected a pass to Nikita Kucherov and he ripped a slapshot by James Reimer to tie the contest.
The Panthers received a 4-on-3 power play in overtime when Tyler Johnson tripped up Jason Demers in the neutral zone as he headed for a breakaway. They converted it when Yandle sailed a cross-ice pass from the right circle to the left circle and Jonathan Marchessault burned his former team with his 14th goal of the season.
