Former Florida Panthers radio voice Jiggs McDonald will return to Sunrise on Thursday night and announce the Panthers game against the Los Angeles Kings on Fox Sports West. He was slated to fill in for Kings television play-by-play announcer Bob Miller for this specific game prior to the start of the regular season.
McDonald was the second radio play-by-play announcer in Florida Panthers history when he replaced Chris Moore prior to the 1999-2000 season. He held that position for five seasons alongside Randy Moller and left after the 2003-04 season.
McDonald was the first play-by-play announcer for the Los Angeles Kings. He worked there from 1967-68 until 1971-72. McDonald will do his first Kings game to be primarily aired in the Los Angeles market for the first time in 45 years.
Following his work with the Kings, he became the first play-by-play voice of the Atlanta Flames. The Flames moved to Calgary in 1980 and McDonald joined the New York Islanders as their television voice on SportsChannel where he announced three Stanley Cup Champions He stayed in that position for the next 15 years and was replaced by Howie Rose. McDonald stepped in earlier this season and worked one home game for the Islanders against the Panthers on television back in December.
