The Florida Panthers lost to the Ottawa Senators 2-1 at BB&T Center on Sunday night. It was the third straight loss for the Panthers during the homestand following a five-game winning streak on the road.
Ottawa(33-21-6) scored a shorthanded goal on the Panthers first power play at 6:28 of the first period. The Sens came down on a 2-on-1 break and Erik Karlsson fired a slapshot from the right circle which James Reimer saved. Zack Smith put in the rebound from the left circle for his 15th goal this year.
Florida(28-23-10) came back and converted on their second power play of the contest with 2:47 left in the first. Keith Yandle passed from the top of the zone to Jonathan Huberdeau in the right circle. He connected a cross-ice pass to Jonathan Marchassault and he rifled a shot from the left circle past Craig Anderson for his 19th goal this season.
In the second period, the Senators retook the lead midway through at the 9:58 mark. Karlsson sent a long pass from his own end to Mike Hoffman at the Panthers line. Kyle Turris got the puck from him, skated through the low right circle and scored on a high wrist shot.
