The Florida Panthers lost to the Buffalo Sabres 4-2 at Key Bank Center on Monday night. It was the first game of a four-game road trip against Atlantic Division opponents for the Panthers who had a two-game win streak stopped.
Buffalo(32-32-12) stormed out to a three-goal lead in the first half of the contest and compiled two goals in the first period. Ryan O'Reilly scored on the power play at 3:21 and Zach Bogosian followed at 14:26.
The Sabres made it a three-goal margin at the 1:25 mark of the second period. Brian Gionta, who played in his 1,000th NHL game, scored with the man advantage.
Jonathan Marchessault helped Florida(33-31-11) break the shutout as he scored his 29th goal of the season on the power play at 10:19. It was his sixth goal in the last three games.
Marcus Foligno added another goal for Buffalo at 15:08 to make it 4-1. The Cats made a goaltending change as James Reimer was replaced in net by Reto Berra.
The Panthers pulled to within two goals just over one minute later. Jonathan Huberdeau put in his eighth tally of the year which was unassisted.
