The Miami Marlins had an easier time than expected with a 7-2 victory over the New York Mets at Citi Field on Friday night. It was the fourth game of a six-game road trip for the Marlins.
New York(2-2) got on the scoreboard in the first inning. Curtis Granderson singled to left field which scored Asdrubal Cabrera.
Miami(2-2) put up a three-run rally during the top of the second. Derek Dietrich tripled to deep center field as Justin Boar and Marcell Ozuna crossed the plate. Dietirch would later score on a ground out by Adeiny Hechavarria.
The Marlins continued their momentum in the third. Christian Yelich smashed a two-run homer that hit the right-field foul pole and drove in Dee Gordon to make it 5-1.
The Fish added two more runs in the fifth inning for a six-run cushion. Ozuna knocked in Yelich with a base hit to left field. Dietrich followed with an RBI-single into center to score Giancarlo Stanton from third.
The Mets showed some pop in their lineup in the bottom of the eighth. Yoenis Cespedes blasted a solo home run to left field on a 3-1 count and cut the margin to 7-2.
