The Miami Marlins completed a nine-game home stand as they were swept by the Houston Astros 3-0 at Marlins Park on Wednesday. Miami(14-25) finished the home stand with a 1-8 record. They have lost 11 of their last 13 games and 17 of 21. The Astros, who remained on top with the best record in Major League Baseball, went 6-1 on their road trip.
Houston(29-12) sprinted out to a 1-0 lead during the first inning. George Springer led off with a double to deep right field and scored on a Jose Altuve double down the left-field line.
The Astros extended their margin to 3-0 in the top of the sixth with a two-out rally. Alex Bregman singled to left and former Marlin Jake Marisnick was hit by a pitch. Lance McCullers Jr. loaded the bases when Dee Gordon made a throwing error to second base. Springer pushed a base hit through the hole on the right side which brought in Bregman and Marisnick.
