The Deerfield Beach Bucks got by the Miami Central Rockets 10-0 in a two-quarter contest at the Palm Beach Lakes Jamboree in West Palm Beach on Friday night. The Bucks made it to the Class 8A state semifinal last season and lost at home to Southridge. The Rockets failed to make the FHSAA playoffs in 2016 and ended their run of four consecutive Class 6A state championships.
Deerfield Beach came close to scoring a touchdown during their first possession and were stopped by the Rockets defense. They had to settle for a 20-yard field goal by Liden Rivera to make it 3-0.
In the second quarter, Miami Central fumbled the ball away at their own 27-yard line. The Bucks capitalized on it and finished their drive as quarterback Kyle Kaplan sneaked up the middle on a one-yard touchdown run for a ten-point lead.
