The Miami Marlins honored Ichiro Suzuki for his 3,000th base hit in Major League Baseball prior to the game and they pounded the Pittsburgh Pirates 10-3 at Marlins Park on Sunday. The Fish were able to snap a four-game losing streak.
Pittsburgh(11-13) scored all of their runs in the contest during the first inning against Marlins starting pitcher Tom Koehler. Josh Harrison walked and Josh Bell followed with a two-run homer to right-center field on a 3-1 count. John Jaso later singled into right field to score Gregory Polanco.
Miami(11-12) cut the deficit to 3-1 in the second when Justin Bour drove in Marcell Ozuna with a double to center. Bour knocked in Giancarlo Stanton with a single down the right-field line in the bottom of the fourth.
The Fish took the lead 4-3 during the fifth inning. Bour again came through with a two-run single into right-center field which brought in Dee Gordon and Stanton.
The Marlins put the game away with six runs in the bottom of the seventh. After an Ozuna base hit, Bour blasted a two-run home run into the upper deck in right on the first pitch. A.J. Ellis was rewarded home when a relay from the outfield went off Bell and into the Pirates dugout. Adeiny Hechavarria came up to pinch-hit, got an RBI-single to right and Rojas scored from third.
Martin Prado hit the ball up the middle for a base hit and Hechavarria crossed the plate. Miami loaded the bases and Christian Yelich whacked the ball toward the pitcher for Gordon to score on a ground out.
