The Miami Marlins finished a short five-game road trip with a 7-0 shutout victory over the New York Mets on Sunday at Citi Field. The Fish have won six consecutive games against the Mets(15-16).
Miami(13-17) moved out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first inning against Adam Wilk. Christian Yelich walked to first with one out then Marcell Ozuna followed with a double into the left-field corner. Giancarlo Stanton blasted a three-run homer off the façade of the middle deck in left field on a 0-1 pitch for his ninth home run of the season.
The Marlins made it a four-run cushion in the top of the fourth. Stanton again homered to left for his 31st career home run against the Mets. He now has the most home runs hit by an opponent at Citi Field with 20.
In the fourth inning, the Fish extended their margin to 6-0. Adeiny Hechavarria smacked a solo home run on a 1-0 count to left-center field. It ended a long drought for him as he hit his first homer since May 26, 2016. Yelich later tripled to right-center field and scored on a wild pitch.
