The Atlanta Braves defeated the Miami Marlins 5-3 at Sun Trust Park on Friday night. It was the first game of a seven-game road trip for the Fish.
Atlanta(50-58) moved out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Dee Gordon committed an error on a Nick Markakis at-bat for Brandon Phillips to score.
Miami(51-56) would go ahead during the middle innings. Giancarlo Stanton blasted a solo home run to center field on the first pitch in the fourth inning. He later hit his major league leading 35th home run of the season, which was a two-run homer, during the top of the sixth on a 0-1 count to make it 3-1.
The Braves bounced back in the bottom of the frame and regained the lead 4-3. Markakis smashed a three-run homer to right on a 3-2 pitch. Phillips and Tyler Flowers scored in front of him on the play.
In the seventh inning, the Bravos extended their margin. Phllips drove in Lane Adams with a base hit into left field.
