The Miami Marlins pitched a combined four-hitter and they shut out the Washington Nationals 7-0 at Marlins Park on Wednesday night. The Fish scored 14 straight runs against Washington(63-43) in the past two games.
The Nationals only had two hits in the first eight innings of play. The Marlins have won their nine of their last 13 games and went 5-2 on their home stand.
Miami(51-55) jumped on the Nats in the first inning. Giancarlo Stanton ripped a double into right-center field and Dee Gordon scored.
In the fifth inning, the Marlins scored four runs to extend their margin 5-0. Christian Yelich cracked his 13th home run of the season, a two-run homer to center field on a 2-1 pitch, which brought home Gordon. Derek Dietrich later hit a two-run homer to right on a 1-2 count with J.T. Realmuto scoring in front of him.
The Nationals surrendered two more runs in the bottom of the sixth. Gordon drove in Miguel Rojas with a base hit into center field. Two batters later, Yelich doubled to right-center field to bring in Gordon. Stanton saved the shutout on the final out when he jumped high and caught the ball well above the right-field fence.
