The Miami Marlins stopped the Philadelphia Phillies 7-4 at Citizens Bank Park on Tuesday night. The Marlins, who swept the doubleheader against the Phils, have won nine of their last 11 games and reached the .500 mark for the first time since April 27.
The first two innings belonged to the Marlins as they compiled six runs. The first inning was capped by a Marcell Ozuna two-run homer to center field on a 2-2 pitch. Christian Yelich made it 6-0 in the second inning on a three-run home run to center field.
In the fourth inning, Philadelphia(45-79) closed the gap to 6-3. Nick Williams connected with a solo home run and later Andres Blanco blasted a two-run homer to right on a 3-2 pitch.
The Phillies pulled to within two runs during the bottom of the sixth. Tommy Joseph smashed a solo homer to left field on a 1-0 count.
Miami(62-62) extended their margin to 7-4 in the top of the eighth. Mike Aviles knocked in Derek Dietrich with a single into center field.
