The St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders routed the Dillard Panthers 39-0 in a kickoff classic held at Brian Piccolo Stadium on Thursday night. STA has outscored the Panthers 90-0 in the last two preseason meetings between both schools.
It took a while for St. Thomas Aquinas to get on the scoreboard and they accomplished that at 3:17 of the first quarter. Quarterback Curt Casteel threw a 43-year touchdown pass toward the right sideline which was caught by wide receiver Tavares Kelly.
The Raiders extended their margin to 14-0 with 2:35 left in the second quarter. Casteel had a pass tipped by a defensive back 25 yards downfield. Wide receiver Elijah Moore pulled in the reception at the Panthers 40 and ran it into the end zone for a 70-yard passing play.
The second half started bad for Dillard when Donald "Guy" McCarthy returned the kickoff back for a touchdown and a 21-point lead for STA. Casteel compiled his third touchdown pass of the contest with 7:43 left in the fourth quarter when he connected with wide receiver Teriq Philips in the front of the zone from 15 yards away.
St. Thomas Aquinas brought in backup quarterback Kyle Engel to finish the game. Wide receiver Marcus Rosemy made a 35-yard touchdown reception with under four minutes remaining to make it 33-0.
