The Miami Herald has decided to cut back on their day-by-day coverage of the Florida Panthers. Their beat reporter George Richards has been reassigned to another area of the sports department.
Richards became the Florida Panthers beat writer for that newspaper while the National Hockey League was in a lockout in 2005. He replaced David J. Neal who was the Panthers beat writer from 1993 until the lockout.
The newspaper had covered less road games of the team last season than any time during the 25-year history of the NHL franchise. Richards was not assigned to cover any road games out of the state of Florida in the first two months of the season until the Cats played in Chicago against the Blackhawks on November 29. Panthers head coach Gerard Gallant was fired by the club two days prior in Carolina with no local newspaper Florida Panthers beat writers at that game.
