Miami Sports Radio 560 WQAM-AM ended on top of all sports format radio stations in the Miami/Fort Lauderdale market for the second straight month. All three competitors went to a simulcast of a local television station for a time period due to Hurricane Irma in mid-September.
WQAM dropped from a 1.1 to a 0.9 during September. The rescheduling of opening week for the Miami Dolphins and two games of the University of Miami Hurricanes football team did hurt. They were the first local sports station that returned to their regular format while their competitors lost their terrestrial transmitter signals.
Sports Talk 790 The Ticket WAXY-AM lowered from a 0.9 to a 0.8 in the period. They did lose their transmitter signal and recovered it several days later after WQAM was up and running. The start of the FIU football season did not help matters.
Miami Sports 940 WINZ-AM remained the same with a 0.2 for the third consecutive month. The Miami Marlins went into a losing slump in September and fell from playoff contention. WINZ did not have a live local sports show broadcast for over a week.
