The Carol City Chiefs face the Miami Central Rockets at Traz Powell Stadium on Friday night in a District 16-6A game. The district was clinched by Miami Northwestern last week so both schools will attempt to become the top wild card for the upcoming FHSAA Class 6A Region 4 playoffs.
Carol City(5-2, 2-1) comes off a 39-7 victory over Booker T. Washington last week. They have compiled four shutouts this year and have outscored their opponents 216-29 this season. After losing their season opener to Deerfield Beach, the Chiefs got four consecutive shutout wins against Dr. Krop, Hialeah-Miami Lakes, Norland and Southridge. They then lost to district rival Miami Northwestern.
The Chiefs can use Marlon Smith and Hallandale transfer Legend Moore at quarterback. They have running backs Camron Davis and Nay'quan Wright who will split the rushing attempts from the backfield. Wide receivers Phenol Williams and Treyunn Lane look to make receptions downfield.
Miami Central(7-2, 2-1) play their final game of the regular season following a loss last week to Miami Northwestern 21-7. Their only other defeat was to independent school IMG Academy. The Rockets have topped Chaminade-Madonna, Booker T. Washington, Bishop Gorman, Norland, Edison, Blanche Ely and Hialeah-Miami Lakes. They have outscored their opponents 289 -132 this season and averaged 40 points in their last four games.
James Cook, who recently committed to the University of Georgia, will get the bulk of the carries for the Rockets on offense. Quarterback Maurice Underwood looks to connect passes with wide receivers Terrell Perriman, Zeryus Coleman and Seth McGill.
