A new era began in Miami Marlins history as new ownership of the baseball club started on Monday. A group of investors that includes former New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter and Bruce Sherman officially became the new owners and fourth faction to run the franchise in its history.
The former owner Jeffrey Loria had sold the team that he had owned since 2002. David Samson worked his final day as president of the Marlins organization on Sunday and was not retained by the new owners.
The only time a team Loria headed made the playoffs was in 2003 when they won the World Series. The club changed their name from Florida Marlins to Miami Marlins and moved into their new venue Marlins Park in Miami after the 2011 season.
