The Cardinal Gibbons Chiefs travel up north to Orlando and face the Jones Tigers in a Class 5A regional quarterfinal on Friday night. It is the first playoff meeting between both teams.
Even though Cardinal Gibbons(9-1) lost their only game to district rival Plantation American Heritage by four points this year, they did get victories over playoff-bound Southridge, Delray American Heritage and Dillard. The Chiefs, who had four shutouts, have outscored their opponents 357-53 and averaged 35 points per game this season.
They have three options to rush the ball at running back with Vincent Davis, Jordan Riggins and Tajae Davis. The Chiefs will have Nik Scalzo at quarterback and he looks for wide receivers Carlos
Sandy, Brandon Lee, Levontae Decius and Dimon Stewart on pass plays.
Jones(9-1) enter this contest on a nine-game winning streak after losing their season opener to St. John's in Washington D.C. The Tigers have wins over Bishop Moore, Evans, Colonial, West Orange and Oak Ridge and compiled five shutouts this year. They have outscored their last nine opponents 359-27 and averaged 39 points for and three points against per game.
Quarterback Quadry Jones will lead the Tigers on offense. Their main threat in the backfield is running back Aaron Thompson. Wide receivers Sevyn Banks, Jequan Burton and Decarri Allen are expected to make pass receptions from Jones.
