The Western Wildcats ride up the Sawgrass Expressway to Delray Beach and face the Atlantic Eagles at War Eagle Stadium in a Class 8A regional final on Friday night. It is the first playoff meetings between both schools.
It will be the third straight playoff game on the road for Western(10-2). The Wildcats upset Deerfield Beach 20-17 in a regional quarterfinal and last week came back to beat Palm Beach Central 14-12 in a regional semifinal. They have outscored their opponents 357-149 this year. They have averaged 29 points for and 12 points against per game.
The Wildcats offense will be led by quarterback Harrison Story. He intends to find wide receivers Jordan Smith, Steffen Fernand and Jaeden Fagan all over the field. Their rushing game consists of running backs Keshaun Clarke and Daniel Colon.
Atlantic(10-1), who have won 10 consecutive games, never figured to host a regional final home game as the fourth seed in Region 3. That changed when Miramar, Deerfield Beach and Palm Beach Central lost in the first two playoff rounds. The Eagles have outscored their opponents 301-86 and they averaged seven points against per game this season. They defeated Plantation 29-14 in a regional quarterfinal and knocked off district rival Park Vista 14-7 last week in a regional semifinal.
The Eagles have quarterback Antoine Williams II to call the signals on offense. He will look to connect passes to wide receivers Corey Gammage, Varrick Lurry-Davis, Cadarius Gaskin, Javone Jackson, Kamareon Williams and Aydin Henningham. Running back Shelley Singletary is expected to get the bulk of the carries along with Corey Cola Jr.
